Buy Claude API access, paid in rial
Most people in Iran who buy a "Claude account" see a suspension notice a few weeks later, and lose the credit with it. If you want Claude for coding, document analysis or building a product, you do not need an account; a Hormouz API key is enough. This page shows what each Claude model is for, what it costs, and which tools connect to it.
Don't buy a Claude account: account vs API key
An account (a Claude Pro or Max subscription) is for chatting on the Claude website and app, and it is registered to one person. Anthropic does not serve Iran, so an account recognised by an Iranian number, card or IP is closed sooner or later; shared and second-hand accounts share that fate.
With an API you call the model from your own program, editor plugin or automation and pay for what you use. On Hormouz your account and key are registered with Hormouz, and Anthropic holds no account in your name that it could close.
Which Claude for which job?
The Claude family has three tiers (Opus, Sonnet and Haiku) plus Fable. Each card's price and context come from the live Hormouz catalogue.
The strongest Claude for the hardest work: large codebase changes, code review, financial and scientific analysis, agents that run for hours.

Prompt caching: cut your Claude bill several times over
If you repeat a long fixed text (instructions, docs or code) in every request, Claude can cache it: the first write costs a little more, and later reads cost a fraction. The example below is computed from live Hormouz prices.
Example: Claude Sonnet 5.5 with a fixed 50,000-token prompt, called 100 times, 500 output tokens each.

Which tools connect?
Works
- The official OpenAI SDK for Python and JavaScript (change only the base URL and key)
- Editors with an "OpenAI-compatible" or custom base URL option: Cursor, VS Code, JetBrains AI Assistant, Cline, Zcode, opencode and Neovim
- n8n with an OpenAI credential pointed at the Hormouz base URL
Doesn't work
- Claude Code and Claude Desktop
- Anthropic's own SDK (the anthropic package for Python and JavaScript)
- SDKs and tools that only speak one company's own API (a non-OpenAI protocol)
Hormouz is an OpenAI-compatible API. You call Claude with the same OpenAI request shape and just set the model name to anthropic/….
Your first Claude request
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(base_url="https://api.hormouz.net/v1", api_key="YOUR_HORMOUZ_KEY")
reply = client.chat.completions.create(
model="anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5",
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Hello!"}],
)
print(reply.choices[0].message.content)import OpenAI from "openai";
const client = new OpenAI({ baseURL: "https://api.hormouz.net/v1", apiKey: "YOUR_HORMOUZ_KEY" });
const reply = await client.chat.completions.create({
model: "anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5",
messages: [{ role: "user", content: "Hello!" }],
});
console.log(reply.choices[0].message.content);FAQ
- Is this the real Claude from Anthropic?
- Yes. Your request reaches Anthropic's Claude models; Hormouz provides the key, the payment and the access path.
- Can I connect Claude Code to Hormouz?
- No. Claude Code only speaks Anthropic's own API, and Hormouz is OpenAI-compatible. To code with Claude, use Cursor, Cline, VS Code, JetBrains or opencode.
- How do I pay?
- You buy credit with an Iranian bank card through the gateway in the dashboard. Each request is priced in dollars and taken from your credit.
- Claude or ChatGPT?
- Both are reachable with the same Hormouz key. For a numeric comparison see the comparison pages, and try both on your own task.
- Do I need a VPN?
- No. The Hormouz API address is reachable from inside Iran.
